Ärende: Russia attacking Poland
===============================
Hello Dan,

>RW>In case you hadn't noticed, the bear is back to it's old tricks.
>RW>Georgia is the victim this time.

>DC>You can thank McCain and Bush for Georgia's problem.

>RC>How so?

DC>South Ossetia has considered itself independent from Georgia since the
DC>1990s, even before the breakup of the USSR. It considers Georgia the
DC>agressor in this situation. As it stands, South Ossetia is eliciting
DC>help and is being promised that help from its neighbors.

Who invaded who? It seems the Russian army has invaded parts of
Georgia. Not the other way around. As such, those actions should
be condemned, not applauded.

DC>It doesn't help the situation at all that Georgia is being wooed by NATO.
DC>Russia is not pleased that NATO would have a reach that far to the east.

Georgia is an independent and sovereign state, and should have every
right to choose its own destiny.

DC>Couple this with the facts of the missile defense system being deployed in
DC>Poland and that they are trying to get rid of Russia from the G8. Needless
DC>to say, Russia is not amused.

The other members of the G8 will simply withdraw, leaving Russia
all by herself, thus making the G8 the G1. That way, Russia will
be free to play with herself all she wants, without interference
from any other country. See how that works?

DC>Then, add in the perception Saaakashvili had via McCain's foreign
DC>policy advisor. Cleary, he expected a lot more from McCain and the
DC>US than, "We are all Georgians". That response must have given the
DC>Georgian president a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling on its receipt.

McCain's foreign policy advisor is a well-known neo-conservative.
In that light, McCain's comment makes no sense, given very few Georgians
or Americans are neo-conservatives. But it does show McCain's true
colors as to who and what he is.

DC>I'm amazed that Rice allowed this all to happen. She's supposed to be
DC>an expert on Soviet politics. And, if it wasn't so serious, I'm
DC>amused at her and others, including Bush, berating statement that "nations
DC>in the 21st century do not invade sovereign nations. How
DC>they could say that and
DC>without cringing is simply astounding.

Putin views the Georgian president as Dubya viewed the Iraqi president.
The difference is that Dubya ordered a full-scale invasion of Iraq, had
the Iraqi president executed, and has vowed to keep US troops stationed
in Iraq forever.

DC>We all need to thank the Shrub for Cold War II. Apparently, the War
DC>on Terror wasm't flashy enough for him.

Dubya was not able to catch Osama bin Laden (dead or alive), and needed
a war he could win in order to win a second term. Thus his decision to
invade Iraq. The war in Iraq has not gone well, and the American people
are upset. The economy is also a mess. Thus the need for Dubya to
create a diversion. Hence the crisis in Georgia and Poland. That way,
Republican presidential candidate John McCain can cite his experience as
a military man and defeat his Democratic opponent (Barack Obama) in the
upcoming presidential election. Fear-mongering. Works every time.
