You must not have traveled to the US after 9-11. There were patriots
clamboring to get their hands on the bastards who attacked us.

That is/was why JFK and LBJ worked up to it gradually and why, LBJ faked
an attack on a US destroyer to make the case for going. I know a radar
technician, Bob Brown, who was on that ship and on duty when the attack
was said to have happened. He says that it didn't happen, as there was
nothing on his radar screen that night and the ship, although it went to
battle quarters, never fired one round.

BS. Every one of those volunteers knows that if a conflict were to break
out, they could easily be in the middle of it. That is their primary duty,
afterall.

There were those who complained that they had to leave everything behind
to go fight in those places, but more of them were chomping at the bit to
go. Many have served more than one tour of duty and would go for more if
they were allowed.

Here's one for ya and it's all true. I had occasion this past summer to go
out on a call to unlock a pickup out by the lake. The person I dealt with
was an Army Major, fresh from Aghanistan and now on holiday, fishing in
the lake. He said that he was serving in San Antonio for a couple of
months at the hospital. He had been wounded in Iraq and had fully
recovered before serving a 2nd tour there. He told me of the men in Brooke
Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, all wounded veterans of both
Iraq and AFghanistan.

He described the wounds of the men there, many without arms and legs who,
if they could, would do it all over again, knowing the consequences of
extended exposure in the field could very well be what they're already
experiencing.

He himself was due to return to Afghanistan within the year. He said that
he needed some time at home with his wife and daughter, who support him no
matter what.

Some fairy tale, eh?

Some of the descriptions of the men and their wounds brought a tear to my
eyes and I thanked him for his openness in telling me about his the others
experiences. I thanked him for his sacrifices and those of his comrades.
He seemed greatful that I was at least one American who supported them.

As I drove off, I recalled the days when Vietnam vets came back home
through San Diego and the scumbags who greeted them with spit and name
calling. I stood up for them then and hated those bastards who thought our
boys were the bad guys. They should have been forced to go there and see
for themselves what they had to go thru.
