Yes.  And the 'sex offender' conviction includes a whole lot of people besides
child molesters.

A couple of years ago in Nebraska a 19 YO guy got his 13 YO girl friend
preggers.
So they got her parents' permission and zipped down to Kansas and got married.
When he got wind of the situation the local DA decided not to prosecute, so the
busybodies in town (Nebraska City, NE) contacted the crusading state attorney
general.  The state AG got the kid convicted and sentenced to the state pen;
when
the kid gets out (he may already be out, it was a short sentence) he is
forbidden
from having any contact with his daughter, born while he was in the slammer,
because he is a convicted sex offender.  He also cannot live with his wife,
because
the kid is there.

One thing I'd like to see happen is to have some of those unfortunates legally
change their names - to those of various members of the legislature and other
supporters of those laws - and then use those folks' addresses when registering
with the local sheriff.

Another problem I have with those registrations is that the various county 
governments post them on their web sites, and a lot of busybodies make it a
point to check out those lists - and then make life miserable for any of the
unfortunates on the list who happen to live anywhere near them.
