      That's one of the uses I do with mine, there's a few other things that I
needn't go into here.

      I have an OBDII interface that connects my Chev and my son's Chev (both
Blazers) computer interface to our laptops, primarily to monitor what's going
on, although I have 'tweaked' my vehicle's computer a tad, to get better
performance as well as better fuel mileage.

      Have you checked the cost on ebay?  I've seen XP/pro go quite cheap
there.  Mind you, you probably have a better than average chance of getting a
counterfeit copy - a friend got some that way, the only way *I* could tell the
ones he got were phony was they all had the same registration code, but other
than that, the disks, packaging, and holograms were perfect, had to be quality
Chinese work.  :)
