Having lived there a couple of years I'm perfectly aware about the freedom of
speech thing. What I'll gladly admit however and which totally took me by
surprise is how far someone will take that interpretation and how far people in
(Fido) office will allow others to take that interpretation especially as the
obvious intention is to merely annoy others ... not to express an opinion.
 
As a result of that episode during one of my travels I went there to a Barnes &
Noble to search for "Mein Kampf" and ... indeed ... I found it.
 
Owwww .... kayyy .... <right> ... if that's 'freedom of speech' and everybody
is happy, I can live with it. Not that I'm happy with it, but such is life. If
people argue that it's a work of considerable phylosophical value representing
an important political stream which in its historical context must be studied
then that is perfectly acceptable... for a history scholar.
 
As a private person to have it sitting on a bookshelf at home, I would call
that sickening...
 
... so at that time I went to look for the Communist Manifesto ... couldn't
find it. Went to look for the original Red Book with quotations from Chairman
Mao ... couldn't find it.
 
I concluded that it's an odd interpretation of 'freedom of speech' to insist
that "Mein Kampf" is freely available but the "Communist Manifesto" not.
 
Is it a coincidence or is that an example of selective convulsive sociological
behaviour? I don't know ... but very interesting nevertheless ...
