     In many cases I think you are right. Although I also think or at least
hope that in most of those cases the person acquired the handgun without the
thought of actually killing someone. Then there those that bought a handgun
for other purposes.

     Let me get one statement out of the way. I own handguns. My primary
reason in having them was not to kill someone. But in a last case scenario
when there was no other way or altenatives. I would use a hangun to protect
my children or family from death.

     The gun that I had with me was a .44 magnum with a 6.5 inch barrel
holding six rounds.  I'm thinking it would depend on where I hit the bear
in order to drop the animal. I am happy in not having to have had the need
to find out.
