When we lived in Poway, CA, Nancy had a condition that required her to go
to emergency at least once a week until her condition was finally under
control. The hospital always interviewed her on each visit but since she
had no insurance, I got to be the lucky player that ended up paying the
bill. She was never asked for money up front the first time and anytime
thereafter. That was how it was with a dentist who had to do a root canal
or pull the tooth that had been aching for weeks before she finally
submitted to my suggestions of seeing a dentist. He took her in with no
questions asked and did a temp fix with meds to help reduce the swelling
while he set up appointments to do the root canal. That little episode
only cost $650, c1984...
