There is nothing pragmatic about racism and bigotry.
After all, one cannot compromise between wisdom and folly.
Either one is, or is not, a racist and a bigot.

In my view, everybody on the face of this planet is a racist
and a bigot.  Every man, woman and child.  Indeed, every person
who has ever lived (with the possible exception of Jesus Christ)
has been a racist and a bigot.  What we do, as individuals, to
overcome that racism and bigotry is up to us.  Some folks are
more successful than others.  Others are not successful at
all, preferring to remain full-blooded racists and bigots.

Society is a reflection of who we are.  As a nation we have been
slave for a longer period of time than free.  Barack Obama credits
"The Great Emancipator" Abraham Lincoln for freeing the slaves,
even though slavery continued for another hundred years in the
form of Jim Crow and racial segregation.  It took society centuries
to overcome its fear of the black man to get where we are today,
having chosen wisdom over folly.
