Which aren't out of line with those states that have income taxes.

Florida, like Texas, has a base sales tax of 6.25% and each county adds to
that percentage for local income. California does the same, but its base
is 7.25% and you can pay as much as 9.25%, depending on where you buy
taxed items. (I use California as a worst case example because it has an
income tax)

Texas has a 'tax free' day in August, where you can buy for two weekends
in a row without paying sales tax. This is the buying season for the
following school year. In Texas, the maximum sales tax is 8.25%.

The tax on gasoline/diesel products in California is the highest in the
lower 48 states. Alaska and Hawaii being much higher. CA includes 6% Sales
Tax. 1.25% county tax. 1.2 cpg state UST fee, plus local sales tax.

This following includes Federal excise taxes of 18.4 cpg for gasoline and
24.4 cpg for diesel. cpg = cents per gallon.

California gasoline/diesel taxes are 64 cents and 72 cents respectively.

Florida gasoline/diesel taxes are 51 cents and 53 cents respectively.

Texas gasoline/diesel taxes are only 38 and 45 cents, respectively.

Florida has Commercial Taxes on all Businesses plus an income tax on
Corporations.

Texas has no income taxes and that is protected by the Texas State
Constitution.
