Not without dis-assembling it.

RB> "Bolt" naturally implies a bolt action,

Bolt is also the part of a pump shotgun that jacks the next round into the
chamber after it has extracted the spent shell...a bolt is also the part
of a machine gun that operates in the same way.

RB> and a shotgun with a "slide" would be a semiautomatic shotgun, which

No semi-auto shotgun is illegal to own here. The slide in a semi-auto is
identical in operation to the bolt in the pump shotgun.

I hate pumps, so I wouldn't ever own one again. Both of my shotguns are
break-open, one single shot and one double.

RB> I'm not familiar with any other kinds, and the bolt action is
 RB> presumably the most common.

The bolt action shotgun is the least common. It's mainly used in the 10
gage shotgun more common to goose hunters. The reason they use it is
because it can knock a goose out of the sky at high altitude as they fly
over a shooter. I've watched many a 12 gage user who attempt that and all
for naught. I think the most often used shotgun is the pump, followed by
the semi-auto. Not many of us skilled shotgunners left these days.

PS - I bought a Mossberg 500 (pump) in 20 guage in the 70s. It wasn't the
ideal shotgun for bird hunting, but it had to do for the time being. I
then bought a Remington 1100 12 guage, which is a semi-auto shotgun, big
and heavy. I hated it because I always used up the 3rd round on birds that
were out of range. It's not allowed to have any more than 3 rounds in a
pump or semi-auto shotgun while hunting. Then I was introduced to a
friend's Winchester 101 shotgun. A double barreled over/under 20 guage
with short 26" barrels that allowed it to swing faster than what I was
using. I liked it so much, I went looking for one the next day. Instead, I
came home with an Ithaca SKB 500, identical to the Winchester in every way
except that it had chrome lined barrels, German silver receiver and a gold
plated single trigger. That was 1977 and I've never looked back wishing I
hadn't gotten rid of the Mossberg and Remington. I aquired the single shot
from a co-worker who had no use for it. It was in prime condition and was
unique in that there was a lever like the lever-action Winchester that
unlocked the breach and allowed it to break open like my Ithaca. It's been
in the field only once when I loaned it to my son who was hunting with us
in the California mtns. Like my Ithaca, it also has a vented rib on top of
the barrel.
