Ärende: Israeli Aggression
==========================
Hello Bob,

>LL>Anwar Sadat led a major war effort against Israel. And yet Egypt and
>LL>Israel found a way to make peace.

RB>Thanks to Sadat. Begin did NOT visit Egypt.

Well, we all know what happened to Sadat upon his return to Egypt...

>LL>Yasser Arafat led a major terror effort against Israel. And yet the
>LL>PLO and Israel found a way to make peace.

RB>Are you kidding? At any rate, Arafat managed to scoop up several
RB>millions in aid money to keep his wife well dressed in the Paris
RB>boutiques. Why do you think Fatah has such a reputation for
RB>corruption?

Arafat married an American. And Arafat knew how much American women
love to go shopping. And oh what a wonderful shopping spree it must
have been for Mrs. Arafat, in gay Paris! I am sure she bought just
about everything imagineable. Mink coats, high-heel shoes, beautiful
pearl necklaces, fancy lingerie...

>LL>King Hussein led a major war effort against Israel. And yet Jordan and
>LL>Israel found a way to make peace.

RB>After Jordan realized it was up to a superior military
RB>force, and had to come to terms because it needed the water
RB>of the Jordan River.

Remember, Jesus was baptized on the Jordan side of the Jordan River.

>LL>President Assad led a major war effort against Israel.

RB>And then got his eyes opened when he saw his forces being
RB>decimated by the Israelis. Arabs tend to have big mouths,
RB>but not much back of them. Lots of bluster.

Israel was the aggressor in the 1967 war. Jerusalem was what
they wanted. The entire city of Jerusalem, not just part of it.
So the Israelis went and got it.

>LL>And yet Syria and Israel almost found a way to make peace.

RB>;-))) Nice joke.

Bill Clinton brought the two sides together. And Clinton really
thought he had a peace deal in the bag. Just as he thought he almost
had Osama bin Laden in the bag. But you know how it goes. Clinton
missed it by >< much.

>LL>If Israel and her Arab neighbors want to make peace, they can find a
>LL>way.

RB>Sure. Live and let live. Trouble is, the Syrians and in
RB>particular the Iranians are still locked into the old
RB>"drive them into the sea" mantra.

Words. Noise. All talk, no action. Such is the way of the Middle
East. Imagine a thousand Bill O'Reillys sitting at a coffee shop,
each of them shouting and screaming at each other, always about how
evil Israel is and always has been. The coffee shop owner loves it,
knowing the more they talk, the more coffee they drink. The more
coffee they drink, the more coffee they order. The more coffee they
order, the more money the coffee shop owner makes.

>LL>There still is nothing between the Israeli army and Damascus, except
>LL>a few miles of desert.

RB>True, but do _you_ want to occupy Syria? The Israelis had a
RB>big enough problem with southern Lebanon.

Israel sure wants to continue occupying the Golan Heights, which
is part of Syria.

>BA>They could pull the plug on the terrorist outfits they've been
>BA>supporting for 30+ years.

RB>But that woulkd take all the "fun" out of it.

Getting others to do the fighting for you, without ever accepting
responsibility or being held accountable. Proxy wars. The USA has
done that many a time. The Contras in Nicaragua are a prime example.

>LL>Syria and Lebanon are neighbors, and naturally good trading partners.
>LL>Kind of like the USA and Mexico, or the USA and Canada.

RB>With one "minor exception". Neither Canada nor Mexico
RB>completely surrounds the USA.

The USA will never allow Canada or Mexico to have a government
hostile to the USA. The same is true of Syria in regards to Lebanon.

RB>Back to the history books, Lee.

Histories are always being revised and rewritten.
And not all histories are the same, or even accurate.
Most history books dealing with the American Civil War
are written from a Yankee POV. Does that make those
history books accurate? Try reading a few history
books written from a Southern POV. What others call
"reconstruction" was in Southern eyes a "military
occupation" of the South. All history is written in
the same light, each historian placing his/her own
slant on history and historical events.
