In Germany, perhaps In the US, what I receive over the air is HDTV, with
no HDMI input required. I can still get the surviving analog stations, but
not for long. They'll be off the air on June 12th.

Not true, here. In 36 days, there won't be anything transmitted in the TV
bands but digital TV. Once the analog stations are gone, we'll see the
digital stations move to the new digital frequencies between the 15-51 UHF
channels. VHF channels will be re-allocated by the FCC to a different
service. Which is a good thing, as analog TV took up a lot of bandwidth.

Absolutely. I don't know how I could have watched TV before this. We had
a 52" RCA projection SDTV before the 60" Sony HDTV and the picture quality
was/is horrible on the RCA. My lawn care guy got it for his place.

San Antonio's channel 5 began broadcasting their news program in HDTV a
few months ago. I like the weather gal on channel 4 better than the
weather dude on 5, but have to watch 5 now, as the picture quality is far
better than the SD picture on 4...
