I have little or no problem inserting them when I have them in front of me.
Maybe you had the bad luck of running into some cheap stuff that fits badly.

I think you are mistaken. The on/off switch is in the socket, not the plug.

Not quit. The consumer has the power to 'vote with the feet'. Many a thing has
failed because the consumer simply would not buy it.

I never had a problem with it. In fact my VCR is still connected in a daisy
chain with the DVB-C receiver to the TV. It works perfectly.

You either had the bad luck to have equipement that does not fully comply with
the standard or you failed to understand it and configured it incorrectly.

Yes, there is a reason. The reason is that there always is a market for things
that people will buy when they do not understand how to properly use things...
