RW>> Wonderful. When I bought my 2002 Silverado in SD, I also got what
RW>> was left of the original factory warranty.

MvdV> I did NOT also get "what was left of the original factory
MvdV> warranty". When I bought it, it was 7 years old. The original
MvdV> warranty had long expired. No, I got a brand new one year
 MvdV> guarantee. Quit normal here...

Here too, if you want to pay for it.

RW>>>> In that case, the person you hire guarantees that what he's
RW>>>> reported to you is what you'll get. Plus there is always CarFax,
RW>>>> which gives you a complete history of the vehicle from day one
 RW>>>> of it's life.

MvdV>>> How do I cash in on it when something goes wrong? When it
MvdV>>> breaks down on me how do I get the seller tp pay for the cost
 MvdV>>> of repairs?

RW>> Didn't you read what I said? The inspector 'guarantees', means that
RW>> you get a guarantee from him. i.e. he stands behind his report with
RW>> a guarantee that it is what he says it is, or you get compensated
 RW>> for any repairs, etc..

MvdV> That is not what I get here. That e.g. an exhaust is in good order
MvdV> does not mean that it will survive one year. Here the local garage
MvdV> does not guarantee that the report is correct. What they guarantee
MvdV> is that if something breaks, they will repair it for free, period.

See: carfax.com

RW>> If he provides you with a CARFAX report, that company also
RW>> guarantees that the vehicle is what they say it is in their report.
RW>> i.e total milage is as they report, accident records if any are as
RW>> they report, damage, sales, owners and registrations are what they
RW>> say they are in their report. If they aren't, you get compensated
RW>> for any mistakes they may have made.

MvdV> The report can be 100% accurate and some part can still break.

No shit!? What gave you your first clue?

MvdV>>>>> No matter how skilled and trustworthy that person is, he/she
MvdV>>>>> can never judge if I am going to *like* the car. Only I can
 MvdV>>>>> judge that.

RW>> Then you have no business buying a car where you can't depend on
RW>> someone else to judge it for you.

MvdV> As I told you, I would not buy a car that I have not test driven
 MvdV> myself.

See above.

MvdV>>> I am not interested in rare old cars. I want a car as a means
MvdV>>> of transport. There is plenty pf local supply, so I buy
 MvdV>>> locally.

RW>> Then why did you enter into this conversation?

MvdV> Because no matter how you twist it, this was not about rare old
MvdV> cars. See the subject line.

In fact it was...I don't look at new cars on Ebay, I look at old cars and
that was and still is the subject. In most cases here and throughout
Fidonet, the subject content changes while the Subj line doesn't...

RW>>>> Unlike Europe, in the US we have the freedom to select vehicles
RW>>>> from dealers, dealer used car lots, independent used car lots,
RW>>>> dealer auctions, reposessed vehicle auctions thru banks, credit
RW>>>> unions, wholesale sellers, private sellers and the list goes on
 RW>>>> and on.

MvdV>>> Eh?? What makes you think we do not have that freedom here?

RW>> If you do, you would have mentioned them.

MvdV> Why mention what goes without saying?

Why bother to enter a conversation that you have no idea what was going on
in the first place?
