In the US, Social Security benefits are based on an average of what you
put in, whether it's for one year or the last 5 years of your working
contribution. i.e. you can make peanuts for 40 years and then make top
dollar for your last 5 working years and get a nice benefit at retirement.
The 'war babys' who're now coming of age for benefits get screwed as the
retirement age increases from 65 to 70...of course, they can always take
retirement at age 62, but they'll lose even more of their benefits.

If our Congress would have left SS alone and invested the money instead of
spending it and giving the SS administration IOUs, SS would have stayed
solvent rather than broke. But you know as well as I that politicians
can't leave any money laying around, they have to spend it...
