The Russians were laughing their collective heads off, knowing
the whole thing was a hoax.  Remember, the Russians had a space
program of their own, and sent three unmanned probes to the
Moon from 1970 to 1976, recovering and returning lunar samples
using their lunar robotic landers.

No astronauts/cosmonauts, American or Soviet, ever came close to
the Moon, much less landing and walking on the surface of the Moon.

The Apollo program was a PR stunt by the USA to show the Soviets
that the USA could hit a target 240,000 miles away.  Nothing more
than that.  The Apollo rocket was, in effect, an ICBM with three
astronauts strapped on top.  Only, no astronauts were on board.

You see, the astronauts did not go to the Moon.  Far from it.  What
was shown on television was an illusion.  An illusion of astronauts
traveling to the Moon, landing on the Moon, walking on the surface of
the Moon, and then returning safely to Earth.  Why go through all the
expense of sending men to the Moon when NASA could do the same thing
for a fraction of the cost in a Hollywood studio (or rather, in the
Nevada desert)?

As per the claims of ham operators listening in on conversations
of astronauts and mission control, do keep in mind that ham operators
have been bouncing signals off the Moon since at least 1946.  The
transcripts of those conversations (which includes astronauts talking
about UFOs flying about the Moon) has been proven to have been a
fake, those transcripts having been posted on various web sites.
I even posted an excerpt of those transcripts in this echo, with
cite of one of those web sites.

Get real.  History books are written by the same people who
concocted the hoax.  Just because a history book tells you that
man walked on the Moon does not make it true.  Look at the Bible.
Or the Qur'an.  Or any other Holy Book.  The books of the Bible
were written by men about some guy with supernatural powers,
without ever showing proof the man actually lived or existed,
or any of the other characters in that magical tale for that
matter.  And yet the churches ram it down people's throats
as fact and everybody on Earth believes it.

If you do some research, just basic research, you will find a lot
of flaws in the Moon landing as well as the Bible/Qur'an/Holy Book
of preference.  If you do lots of research, you will never believe
a single word NASA or any other space agency says again.

NASA has used, and continues to use, a variety of consultants,
contractors, and outside engineering firms to deal with explaining
conspiracy cases.  Why?  Certainly NASA must have a reason as to
why it has hired, and continues to hire, such people.  Is NASA
scared that people are finally catching on to their fictitious
tales about landing a man on the Moon?

Here are a few numbers to consider -

Gallup poll shows 6% of Americans believe the Moon landings were
faked, and another 5% uncertain.  Those numbers have been steady
since 2001.  Other polls show even higher percentages of Americans
having their doubts about NASA's claim of landing a man on the Moon.
Those numbers should not be surprising. Look at it this way.  Nobody
under age of 42 was alive when NASA supposedly landed a man on the
Moon.  And no other country or space agency has made the same claim
of landing a man on the Moon.  Furthermore, most young people today
believe the first "moonwalk" was done by Michael Jackson, and have
never even heard of Neil Armstrong (or any of the other astronauts).

What does NASA claim as proof of its claim?

"Moon rocks and common sense prove Apollo astronauts really did
visit the Moon." - NASA, on its very own web site

Well, the Russkies have Moon rocks.  How did they get them?
They landed a robot on the Moon, collected some souvenirs, and
then returned those rocks to the Earth.  Or so they claim.
After all, that too could have been faked, given non-terrestrial
rocks have been found on Earth (known as meteorites).

How do NASA astronauts deal with such criticism?

Here is what Buzz Aldrin (astronaut on Apollo XI) did -

"You are a coward, a liar, and a thief!" <POW!>
- Buzz Aldrin to Bart Sibrel, filmmaker of "A Funny Thing
Happened on the Way to the Moon", slugging Sibrel in the jaw

Ed Mitchell (astronaut on Apollo XIV) got pissed and kicked
a denier in the seat of his pants (kicked him in the ass).

Eugene Cernan (astronaut on Apollo XVII) was a bit more
of a gentleman, saying "Nobody can take those footsteps I
made on the surface of the Moon away from me."

Unfortunately for Cernan, as well as for Armstrong, Aldrin, and all
the other astronauts who supposedly left footprints on the surface of
the Moon, nobody has ever seen any of those footprints.  And since those
footprints have never been independently verified by anybody, they do
not exist.
