One might easily become involved wiith someone else when one's
wife is a vegetable.
I don't hold that against him, she'd been dead for years.

Freed himself from his last and most important obligation to his wife?
I'd sure think less of him had he done so.
In her case he did what was right.

We'll we're agreed on that, there is no death with dignity in
this country, except in Oregon of course.

I remember an episode of Bill Moyer's Journal on death and dying.
A woman had signed off on her life with the required two doctors
as she was terminal.
Her daughter called and asked her to wait until she could arrive to see
her one more time, she did.
However in waiting she reached the point of no longer being able to
swallow and died in the horrible agony she'd sought to avoid.

See you have to drink the barbituate laced cocktail on your own accord
in Oregon, no intervention by doctors or needles allowed.
This is how it should be.

Well, I don't like that either.
Didn't then and don't now.
Keeping her alive at 16 years of unresponsive vegetative state
was pointless and in it's own way cruel.

In my home state we had a somewhat similar case, Karen Ann Quinlin.
Equally vegetative, equally long term, equally awful.

Nope, just abandoning the most important obligation he could possibly
have to his wife, that of sparing her the indignity of being
a vegetable in a bed.

I did see her PET scan and there's no doubt in my mind she
felt no pain.
Her body reacted as if in pain but there literally was no
remaining brain tissue to consciously feel pain.

As a final point to the case Jeb Bush had sent the Florida Deparartment of law
Enforcement to _rescue_ Terri while the Pinellas Park Police Department
said it would enforce the courts ruling on the case.

It nearly came to a showdown between those two police agencies
until at the last minute Jeb Bush called the FDLE back.
