TR> In California courts, you will go through a metal detector prior to
TR> being allowed to enter the building. Typically, about 6 or eight
TR> heavily-armed, very large LEO's are there at the entrance.

Been there, done that.

TR> If you enter a courtroom that you are supposed to be in, and the
TR> court isn't in session, neither the judge, any of the clerks, or even
TR> the asst.DA are as yet in the courtroom, and you open a newspaper to
TR> glance at the headlines, a very large, beligerent LEO will walk over
TR> and order you to put the newspaper away, reading is not allowed in
 TR> the courtroom!

Ahhh, so I can't review my case file while in the court room?

TR> If you sort of slouch down on the bench as you wait for the judge and
TR> other court staff to arrive, that same LEO (or his look-alike) will
TR> walk over and loudly order you to `sit up straight'! I kid you not!

Who the hell is this guy?

TR> I have actually seen people who were approached by an LEO in one of
TR> these manners, and told the LEO to `stuff it'! get grabbed by two or
TR> more LEO's, get dragged to the door that leads into the `lock-up'
TR> part of the building, and be brought into the courtroom *in
TR> handcuffs!* when their name was called and actually charged with
TR> disorderly conduct, and sometimes even (if the person tries to yank
TR> away from the LEO's grip, or otherwise struggles in any way)
 TR> resisting arrest!

Ahhh, justice in the hands of the socialists...no wonder people are
leaving California in droves.

TR> And the goddamn judge goes along with it!

Of course, he's the guy who tells the LEO what to do.

TR>> Its like a bad play being played out in front of a bored-to-death
TR>> audience, none of whom can just get up and walk out in the middle.

RW>> I often wondered what would happen if the on-lookers and defendants
RW>> got so bored that they started a riot. If you're a non-participant
RW>> and you can't get out, what then, collateral prosecution?

 TR>> It isn't a `justice system' anymore.

RW>> It is here. I don't know how long this has been the case, but there
RW>> is no security in the local courthouse. People can come and go
RW>> without ever running into a metal detector or deputy search at the
 RW>> entrance.

TR> Here in California you could enter and leave courthouses freely, up
 TR> to 9\11.

Nahhhh. I was turned away from entering the court house downtown San Diego
because I had a 2 3/4" pocket knife. I had to take it back to my car or
rent a safety deposit box at the hotel across the street. And this was way
before 9/11.

TR> At that point, the LEO's locked down all government buildings, and
TR> subject everyone entering and sometimes leaving as well, to going
TR> through metal detectors, They even have nearby rooms where they take
TR> people once in awhile and subject them to a more intense, hands-on
TR> search. Even public libraries have metal detectors that a certain
TR> amount of metal on your person will set off a loud alarm, and
TR> security people pour out of a side room to detain and pat you down! A
 TR> fuckin' library!

That's how it is in San Antonio, I'm told. I went into the Sequin, TX
court house to inquire about a tax lien sale and was confronted by two
deputies and a metal detector. They were friendly enough and very
cooperative. Come to find out they post the lien sales on the main
entrance to the court house, which is now locked.
