I was going for completeness / both directions to make sure that I covered
everything.

I think I answered that, all be it sub-optimal.  But I do think it is a start.

Please forgive me, I had the mis-impression that things (use to be?) more of a
hirearchal network following net / region / zone to get between places.  Sure I
figured that there would be some peer to peer, but I did not think there would
be that much of it.  Or has that changed with the introduction of IP
connectivity?

I agree that there is room for improvement.  But I think you will have to agree
that there is a big difference between having nothing verses having something
that needs improvement but will work.

Also keep in mind that what I was talking about is using things that already
exist in Microsoft's Windows operating system.  Just because we have a tool at
hand does not mean that we have to use that tool.

In fact, what I'd like to see is a shim that will run on a computer that can
respond to multiple IPs that would automatically set up the gatewaying.  Even
if it was as simple as a utility that read a list of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
and set up the portproxy for you.  Or better, dynamically did it on an as
needed basis.  I think something like this could be done on Linux via a
userspace program (possibly even Perl) that received the packet from the
kernel.

For any thing like this to have any serious chance of working, the node list
(or something like it) will have to have a list of IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and
correlating them to each other.  I don't know, what does it take to add an
extra (optionally blank) field to the node list?
