Carrier based warfare was taken to new heights..

I believe the Battle Of Leyte Gulf was the most extensive ship to ship
engagements we had.

The Battle went into the Win column for us, but should have been a loss, but
the Japanese Commander thought he was facing a more Substantial Carrier force
and withdrew, I believe he thought he was facing Nimitz main force? Before he
did so, they had crippled several of our destroyers.

It was demonstrated in the Pacific theatre that its easier to dive bomb a ship
than try to slug it out, as what the British did in the Atlantic theatre.

Well they were good at shore bombardment.

Considering the power a modern carrier battlegroup can wield, I would say we
have enough.

Yeah, that should leave us with the Nimitz class Carriers, last 2 commisioned
were the Reagan and The Bush. (The older Bush). The Bush is the last of the
Nimitz class and they will probably start decommisioning the early ones at
that. The next class will be the Ford Class with the Gerald R Ford being built
now.
