                      Give Fido a ham bone

DO you still offer dial-up as well as telnet from your bbs?  Want a
surefire method of promoting your bbs and getting some more users?
Keep on reading.  HEre's a rather simple and easy to implement method
for getting them to pay your system a visit.

FIdo has plenty of bones, backbones, etc.  THe old filebone has been
taken over and well managed by the filegate project, but some of those
old file distribution networks are dormant.

One of the most popular back in the day was the ham-fdn.  Ham radio
operators spanning the globe could log onto their favorite fido bbs
and acquire the latest in logging software; satellite tracking
programs; training materials and other useful operating aids as well
as tech info.

With the decline of the ham-fdn hams have grown accustomed to going to
one site to get the latest update for their favorite logging software.
Another site which is slow to load and has plenty of popups  and other
glitz might give them modification information for newly acquired
equipment.  THe old days of one log on to get everything he wanted or
needed were gone.

FOlks, we're happy to tell you that the ham-fdn is back!  YOu can link
to the file distribution network's various file areas through your
favorite file link and have all sorts of good stuff for your users who
are ham radio enthusiasts.  YOu can also pay a visit to your local ham
radio club and talk to them about old school landline bbs'ing and
fidonet in particular.  YOu'll probably jog some memories of a decade
or so ago when some of the hams used to make regular calls to their
favorite fido board.

YOur users can even help us provide the best in shareware and freeware
as well as demo software for the ham radio enthusiast as well as
information and training materials.  One of the file echoes in the
ham-fdn is specifically for files to be sent upstream for checking by
the fdn coordinator.

THe new ham-fdn coordinator is Mark LEwis at 1:3634/12 and he's even
trying to ferret out some of the older stuff made available through
the ham-fdn.  If you carried those file echoes at one time and still
have them available to you a netmail to him might be helpful.  IF not
that's fine too.  Just hook up and make it available to your users.
THen let your local hams know it's available and you'll surely see an
increase in traffic on your board.
