PK> Sorry for the delay in replying, things have been rather
 PK> busy around here lately........;-)

Me too. The desktop is being baulky about talking to the cablemodem. Not
sure why yet. Does not appear to be the NIC.

PK> The frightening thing about that is
PK> that news makes news, makes popularity, or the American
PK> population get told whats "good for them"......;-(

CS> Naw, most of us are just laughing at this stage. The
CS> most notable one this week
CS> took off on a roadie trip with Oprah whick makes him newsworthy,

PK> I saw that. I found it... disappointing to say the least.

So was my impression. He seems to have a few good ideas in his head but I just
can't wrap my mind around Oprah.

 CS> most of them
CS> lag in the experience being just now in the positions
 CS> to gain it.

PK> My thoughts are that yourr 15 years is too generous, I am
PK> picking it will probably be somewhat less...

Perhaps, but they need more than they have, some of them. Thats one detraction
Hilary doesnt have BTW.

CS> Give it a few months and it will filter down to 4-5
CS> then down to 2 main ones.
CS> It's related to who can get others to work with them,
 CS> and any candidate who
CS> can't get their own party behind them, may not be able
CS> to run a country as wierdly eclectic as this one.

PK> The view we have is that money really does count in that game...

It does, and the ability to fund raise is all part of it.

CS> Here's an odd one. We've had Mormons (a religion) run
 CS> before but the religion
CS> was never an issue. Seems with a recent one it is being made one?

PK> No religous politian has ever made it big time here. Except
PK> for "local" interests, religion and politics definately
 PK> don't mix (IMHO).

Agreed. This was just an odd 'burp' where it got mentioned. One of the
candidates tried to garner votes as a mainstream religion and it backfired
on him.

CS> I wonder what the world would think, if we elected
 CS> 'The Terminator' as
CS> President? He is doing a really good job in California

PK> Yes, that really would raise a few eyebrows.

CS> Can you see the reaction if he joked about 'being
 CS> back'? he'd do it too <g>

 PK> .........;-)

Hehe. It would be funny as hell!

PK> From an outsiders perspective, allowing Arnold to
 PK> stand for Pres would
PK> be nothing short of extremely radical. The usual impression we

CS> Why? I mean, why would you feel it so?

PK> I guess it stems from the impressions most of Arnold that most of us
PK> have built up over his years in entertainment. Its hard for us
PK> to see him as being serious... Turning that into something
PK> concrete is a bit hard to accept, but then our vision of
PK> his current actions is probably tied to what is available
PK> external to the USA, IE we dont always get to see the nitty
PK> gritty insides to much of it.

Yes, you probaby don't get to see much on how he is reacting in various
California issues. Hes made some bobbles, admitted it, then fixed them.

CS> No actually hes doing the same as many another great
 CS> state governer and they
CS> generally have pretty good luck in presidential
 CS> elections if past Governors
CS> with a good record. Regan was CA gov too.

PK> Is CA considered a good barometer for general USA political feelings?

Not really, but they sometimes are a bit more advanced view of what is to
become mainstream. Often they will pass a law then 4-5 years later, others
will
follow suit with a similar one.

 CS> Unless i already have a friendly
CS> relationship with someone, if they just baldly told me'
CS> thats wrong, do it this way' I'd probably feel hurt
CS> and angry at the same time. That would then make me
 CS> if however
CS> approached with 'here is a diffrent way, see if it
CS> works' I'd glommer on it and try.

PK> Bingo, you hit it in one, there is a direct way and then a better
 PK> way.....;-)

Every culture has it's odd points!

CS> In Japan I had to learn that the folks really hate to
CS> say 'no, cant help' so will send you on tail-chasing
CS> epics that are comical in retrospect as you
CS> ricochet from one side of town to the other.

PK> Thats the "Saving face" scenario that the Japanese are
PK> famous for. I have yet to run into it myself and although I
PK> am aware of it I think I would still find it quite unusual
 PK> at first.

It is unusual at first and can be very frustrating as well. There are subtle
ways to tell it's going on, but it takes a bit to get the hang of reading that.
            xxcarol
