Oh, I was on it daily for nearly ten years.  I spent hours on the net while
I was at work (the company allowed me to do that) and even went in to work
2 or 3 hours early just to 'play' on their gear (seven T-1 lines and all
otherwise
idle  beat the snot out of a dialup 56KB connection).

You are familiar with the mainland Chinese government's control of the
internet within its borders.  Both Cisco and M$ are working with that
government to ensure it can maintain and extend that control.  That
control technology developed there can be implemented anyplace - and
everyplace - else.

One doesn't really need a big transmitter, I read some time ago that a
radio ham managed to communicate successfully (using CW) across the
Atlantic using a transmitter power of five milliwatts.
