INdeed.  There are strains of bacteria and other nice little microscopic life
that are resistant to many of the
antibiotics in common use.  Ask any medical practitioner.
IN fact, this makes for some interesting problems when
treating my lady for many conditions, as she is highly
allergic to many of the modern broad spectrum antibiotics.
They shut down her kidneys.

Also for rOss on the subject of evolution:  Ever eaten a
tangerine?  YEs, evolution manipulated by man, but still
evolution.  THe example I used last evening of the
thoroughbred horse is another, yes guided by man, but
evolution in the purest sense of the word.  YOu too have
evolved.  AT one time your appendix actually did something.
Now it just sits around taking up space until it becomes
inflamed and they rush your carcass to the hospital to
remove it before it kills you.

INdeed, there were more things unexplained even thirty years ago, as we didn't
have the technology to delve into those
mysteries.  COnsider that one hundred years ago we were just barely cracking
open the mystery of radio propagation.
During the first international conferences on allocation of
radio spectrum the shortwaves were considered useless.  We
hadn't really unlocked the mysteries of sky wave propagation in those days. 
ONe hundred years ago using x-rays as
medical diagnostic tools was in its infancy.  We have
"cracked the code" on numerous physical phenomena in just
this short century.  I believe, and this *is* a belief, that in the next half
century we will do even more code cracking

MOst of us involved in this discussion are old enough to
remember a world without a microwave oven.  MVD could
address this point much more ably than I I'm sure, but
MOore's law applies very much in the realm of cracking the
code in the world of physics as well.  AS our measurement
tools and the processing power to make calculations on the
data they give us improves we unlock more of those mysteries at an even quicker
pace.  This from an audio technician, not a scientist <grin>.

NOw here's one for you, I can't cite actual biblical
references, but some world famous acousticians will tell you that the bible has
prescriptions regarding the construction
of places of worship so that the faithful can hear the
presentations adequately, even in large spaces sans modern
sound reinforcement.  OUr friends from EUrope can note this
one readily by journeying to those old cathedrals.  THose
massive stone structures with all that plaster, those
sconces along the walls with the statuary.  THose irregular
surfaces broke up standing waves in the rooms,  enabling
folks even seated at the back to hear the priest clearly.
