Right, I get confused by the name sometimes.

MV> Hmmm... it seems my source was wrong then. I stand corrected.

Well, all I can say is that request.os2.ger is very active with new programs
and utilities. I get at least a couple of pages of new programs and drivers
nearly every day.

RB>> and even I'm amazed to see how many ports from Linux are available

MV> Does it support IPv6?

Who knows? I haven't looked.

MV> That is a standard question I ask when I consider buying new products.
MV> If the answer is anything other then a clear "yes". I move on. Buying

An OS is not just "network stuff". You can develop drivers and programs for it.

As for the "car" analogy... Germany is introducing E10 (90% real gas, 10% hard
liquor) soon, and due to the legal situation, the filling stations will
probably price "real" gas (from petroleum) higher to ensure enough of this glop
is sold to satisfy the politicians. Now, all this is of no importance if you
are the owner of a brand new car, or one made in the last 5 years or so. But if
you have an older car, like my 1992 Mazda, you could have big problems. As far
as I can determine, mine is _not_ compatible with the new glop (E10), which
could cause motor damage. This may be a way the EU has found to increase the
sales of new cars... just wait and see.

RB>> My personal guess is that anything that will run on Linux and is
RB>> useful to fido will be ported to OS/2.

MV> I doubt it. But time will tell.

Keep an eye on os2.request.ger. Anything new will be listed there.

MV> I have been running OS/2 for quit some time, but I ditched it when I

;-) You _are_ good - I would have kept OS/2 and ditched Novell. Or was that
back in the good old DOS days, where there wasn't much choice for DOS
networking?

RB>> And I very much hope this will come to pass, since if it doesn't,
RB>> you'll find that R24 will be the next to disappear from the nodelist.
RB>> OS/2 was and (in fido) still is big in this region, and there are not

MV> My RC takes the same position. He says ii is too much to convert his
MV> Fido system to anorther OS, so when for some reason or another, he can
MV> npo longer use OS/2, he will leave FidoNet.

A pity, and I hope it won't come to that. But I can understand him. I once had
a Linux system running with at least a message editor (GoldED and MsgED), but
that wasn't really a happy time for me, and the constant work to try and
understand what was going on got on my nerves. As for a Windows system... who
knows? I still don't consider even WinXP stable enough for month-long running
without supervision, as can be done with OS/2. My hub, Tobias Burchchardt, uses
XP and a VM for his system, and that works pretty well. No idea what he uses as
a guest OS, though.

MV> But I wonder if when push cmes to shove, the blood will no be thicker
MV> than water after all en he will convert anyway. Anyone who is still
MV> here after all these years is a real die hard and so may change his
MV> mind. Even you.. ;-)

Absolutely no idea, Michiel. The time may come when we have some kind of
Internet forum called "fidonet". At this point, everything's possible.

Cheers, Bob
