I beg to differ there. If there's a gasket, seal or o'ring in that system,
they will be in contact with whatever fuel they seal. Like the MB, the US
automakers use Viton, a brand of synthetic rubber and fluoropolymer
elastomer to seal the fuel system.

Petroleum products aren't as volatile as alcohol, which has a drying out
effect even on synthentics.

In a pinch, I've used synthetic rubber hose intended for automatic
transmission fluids to connect fuel lines. It will begin to break down in
less than a day, contaminating the fuel.

Ask any distiller how well alcohol absorbs moisture, adding more alcohol
to the tank only serves to absorb more water...engines can't burn water.

Key words: should be. I've seen in-tank fuel pumps that had plastic parts
corroded by fuel. Fuel rails that sit over fuel injectors are made of
aluminum. Fuel injectors that have been corroded by fuel passing through
orifices designed for the job. Nothing is ever corrosion proof. Even the
stainless steel lines used in fuel systems get corroded over time.
