I am afraid The Big O is turning out to be The Big Zero, given
his lack of leadership abilities.  Rather than confront a tinhorn
dictator, he has allowed that tinhorn dictator to remain in power,
along with other tinhorn dictators (who now know the US President
is a wimp and will do nothing to support pro-democracy protestors).

US Senators John McCain, Joe Lieberman, John Kerry, and others have
called on President Obama to invoke a no fly zone over Libya, and do
whatever else is necessary to remove the madman from power.  Former
President Bill Clinton has done the same.  The President of the
United States of America has long been known as being the "leader
of the free world".  But to date, President Obama has hardly acted
like that kind of leader.

Libya is a tribal society.  Not really a country, so to speak.  A
collection of tribes, each tribe being an entity unto itself.  Any
form of democracy that comes out of Libya will be far different
than the democracy we know of in the USA, Japan, or Europe.  However,
the present form of democracy that exists in Libya is anything but.
Unless you consider Qadaffi's Green Book as being holier than the
Qur'an itself.  :)

What do the people want?  That is what politics always boils down to.

Libya has far more oil than Egypt.  Consider this.  Even during
the days of sanctions, deals were made for oil companies and
workers to continue drilling for oil in Libya.  If you were in
the oil business, your passport would not be stamped.  Instead,
you would be given a separate page, separate from your passport,
which was stamped.  Nobody outside Libya needed to know you had
ever been to Libya.  As such, businessmen and workers were free
to travel back and forth, whenever they wanted, without their
government ever knowing a thing.  Or if their government did
know about it, it was with a wink.  Money talks.  But oil
talks louder.  And people really do listen.
