How much time is needed?  Do you know?  And what about structural
damage?  Water is heavy.  And when a massive wall of water slams into
a building, especially at a high rate of speed, the damage can be
catastrophic.  And not just when the water goes inland, but also
when it recedes.  When water goes through an area, it often picks
up other objects that it carries along.  Sometimes large objects.
And when those objects slam into other objects...

How many dead Japanese are there, so far?  18,000+ that we know about.
How many future dead Japanese will there be?  Probably a lot more than
18,000+.  Many due to radiation poisoning.  Chernobyl blew up.  The
entire site, mortar and all.  The reactors in Japan are still standing.
For the most part.  But there is still a lot of radiation that has
been leaked, and continues to leak.  Radiation has been found in crops.
Japanese have to eat.  Just like everybody else on Earth.  Radioactive
food is not healthy.  To say, or to suggest, that the disaster in
Japan was not nearly as bad as Chernobyl is very misleading.  The
fact of the matter is -

     -= YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW BAD THE JAPANESE DISASTER IS =-

You have no idea.  Not even a clue.  Nor does anybody else.  Except
those directly affected.  And even those people have only a vague idea
as to how bad the situation is.

Three Mile Island was considered as being a "modern commercial power
reactor" - until disaster struck.  All of today's reactors in the
USA (and elsewhere) are considered as being "modern commercial power
reactors" - and will be considered as being such up until the very
day disaster strikes.  See how that works?
