It's none of your business but let me confide anyway.
 
My wife at very young age was severely physically abused by her parents.
 
The law took her away, put dad in the slammer for several years and mom was
spared with a suspended sentence because there still was a baby.
 
My wife from very young age to the time she became 21 lived in a nunnery and
was brought up by nuns. She has none other than the best experiences and
memories. When she became 21 the law considered she was now adult and taking
care of herself so the law stopped paying for her keep and schooling.
 
As she was training to become a nurse she could never get the degree at age 21
because due of what had happened to her she was a year or two behind.
 
The nuns got her an appartment, paid the rent for as long as needed, paid for
the food, clothing, transportation, tuition, ... whatever until she had her
nursing degree. They also gave her pocket money.
 
It was one of the most fun periods of my life because when I went to court her
... instead of being subjected to a suspicious dad as to the true nature of my
intentions, I had to deal with Mother Superior. She passed away a year or two
ago and that was a sad occasion.
 
When my wife and I had been going together for a couple of months, Mother
Superior asked my wife-to-be if this was "it" and my wife replied 'yes'. So the
next day they went for a doctor's visit and had birth control pill
prescriptions filled out. They even paid for it.
 
When I remarked this was againt what Rome dictated, Mother Superior replied
"The Pope is the ultimate authority on religion but he understands zilch about
young girls and their needs".
 
That, my friend, is my experience. And let me tell you I know about dozens of
such cases. Do not overgeneralise what happened in the Magdalena convents in
Ireland.
