Read some interesting accounts of how the Evil Soviets on at least
two occasions kept WWIII from occurring.

One fellow didn't believe the U.S. would launch so limited a first
strike attack and questioned his launch order instructions.
He saved the world that day, career over.

Another subordinate on a Soviet nuclear submarine refused
to supply his second missile launch key when the captain demanded
it during the  Cuban blockade when U.S. and Soviet ships were
playing chicken and the submarine came under depth charge attack
