WC> So how do you defend the U.S. overthrowing a democratically elected
WC> leader in Iran and installing the Shah?

RW> No need! The Shah was the second and last monarch of the House of
RW> Pahlavi of the Iranian monarchy. He came to power with the overthrow of
RW> Ahmad Shah Qajar, the last ruler of the Qajar dynasty, who had
RW> abdicated his throne to live in France, having been weakened by the
RW> Soviet and British occupation of Iran.

 WC> He was a dictator.

RW> The National Assembly of Iran, known as the Majlis, convening as a
RW> constituent assembly on December 12, 1925, deposed the young Ahmad Shah
RW> Qajar, and declared Reza Shah the new monarch of the Imperial State of
RW> Persia. The National Assembly of Iran changed Persia's name to Iran
 RW> about ten years later.

WC> Why did we install Saddam Hussein as the dictator of Iraq in the
 WC> first place?

 RW> We didn't.

RW> * The Baath Party seized power of the Iraqi government in 1968 with the
RW> organizational help of Saddam Hussein.

RW> * From 1968-1977, Hussein rises through the ranks of the Baath Party.
 RW> He
RW> begins as a central figure but gathers more power during this time.

RW> * In 1977, he assumes control of the government with the present Baath
RW> Party leader Bakr's health ailing.

RW> * On July 16, 1979 Bakr formally steps down and Hussein begins to take
 RW> formal control.

RW> * The next few weeks are a period of purging and consolidation on
 RW> Hussein's part.

RW> I don't read anything that says the USA was instrumental to the support
RW> of or 'installation to power' mentioned anywhere in the rise of SH to
 RW> leader of Iraq.

WC> You might want to drop this debate as if you look too closely into
WC> these matters you may not really like what you find out.

RW> You've already lost it by repeating the liberal mantra of untruths.

WC> Dick Cheney and Halliburton for instance were both Saddam supporters
WC> and suppliers, up until the time they weren't.

You're a lost cause.

Apparently you consider the vested corporate interests of the obscenely
wealthy minority
more worthwhile than the long term stability and health of your own country.

Here's a clue.

The corporate interests and tiny obscenely wealthy minority of those
in charge of the corporate interests involved in energy, aerospace
and munitions could care less about the long term health and prosperity
of the nation.

They're in it for the $$$ here and now today and they've hoodwinked
the majority of Americans.

See as little as ten years ago over 60 corporations controlled
the main stream media, today it's six or less.

If you take the time to research those on the boards of directors
of those main stream media conglomerates you'll find a rather
disconcerting overlap of those in energy, aerospance and munitions
and those media outlets.

But perhaps you're better off in the dark?
The truth can be and often is disturbing.

Sites exist that document this information.

Upon reflection Roy you're probably better off remaining in the dark,
it can be comfortable.

It's not in the long term best interests of the nation however.

... Smedley Butler explained it to me.
