Actually I used to do that on a daily basis, just for fun. Funny how one
end of town is notorious for high gas prices, while the other end of town
has the cheapest price. i.e. Gas near our end of town is the highest at
$3.80/gal and where I buy it, it's only $3.60/gal. Meanwhile, the two
truck stops, one at the north end of town and the other at the south end
of town are both similarly priced in the middle.

Not a coincidence. Oil futures prices are driven by oil speculators on the
NY Stock exchange or your EU market, etc.. Meanwhile, whether or not the
oil company sells a barrel of oil at any certain market level, the price
goes up on speculation. And sometimes the filling station owner raises the
price, just because he can in spite of what the oil company tells him the
sales price is.

You can't legislate against the OPEC cartel, since it isn't a US entity.
You can't do much against Haliburton because it has competition from
other oil companies and setting prices as you suggest is illegal here.
