Depends on where you are, and yes that situation is
improving.  But, all a doc need have is half a dozen
patients with chronic conditions and suddenly what he's
written on his prescription pad recently can be carefully
scrutinized then he's in some serious stuff.  Agreed this
was more common a decade ago.

THIs always surprised me as well.  What the hell you got to
worry about?  TAke the meds, at least live pain free etc.
The problem with that is the ever increasing tolerances, but then, what the
heck.

IT's still out there, but the profession is becoming better
educated about it.
