tO some degree yes, but those warnings were already out
there, if one bothered to pay attention.

tHat was when the allegations first surfaced, but iirc it's
only been this last decade or so that the tobacco companies' paperwork was
really crackd into and those allegations more
or less confirmed.

I have no doubt of that.  But even without it that JOnes is
a bad one.  I watched people during Katrina at that hospital paying $3 and up
for a single cigarette.  tHe menthol
smokers would even go higher than $5 a few times I saw.  I
smoke nonfilters, and that kept those who didn't plan ahead
off me.  HOwever, I did give the hospital electrician a
package of mine when he was offering to buy one or two from
me, after all, he went out on that roof to repair our hf
wire antenna earlier in the week <grin>.
I just tossed him a pack, told him if he could make those
last awhile, because at the time we weren't sure how long we were to be
marooned yet on hospital island <g>.  I did tell
him that if it went awhile and he ran out to hit me up
again.  One of my stops before crossing the lake into NEw
ORleans was my usual vendor for smokes where I bought a
carton, even though I still had a couple of packs left from
the last one.

Ain't that the truth!  I've said more than once that if I'd
known the body was going to keep functioning this long I'd
have taken better care of it as a young man.

My dad finally kicked the habit back in the '80's.  HE and I tried challenging
each other, both put 'em down the same
time, and if one stayed off them for a year from that date
and the other didn't the one who didn't paid a picture of
Franklin.  NEither one of us made it.  FInally he made it
happen.  I remember one night after we'd grilled out when I
was visiting them, I saw sitting on the patio, drink in one
hand, ubiquitous after dinner smoke in the other.  I asked
him if that after-dinner wasn't the one he missed most.  HE
told me it wasn't.

Dad was an over the road trucker, and he asserted the smoke
he missed the most would be while driving down the road,
pulling up to a stoplight, watching somebody in a car pull
one out, get it going, take a deep drag.  "YOu could really
tell they were enjoying that cigarette" he says.
I"ve seen him do it too, he sees it at the light, and
immediately starts patting his pockets.


My remote audio truck's control room in the back is a no
smoking zone, wasn't when previous  owner in Houston had it, but we made it so.
 I'd have a heck of a time if my
office/ham shack became a no smoking zone <g>.
