Whoa, Nicholas - don't include me in this - I'm just a bystander as far as the
zonal split of Fidonews is concerned.

Not really. There is some discussion, true, but you can't really expect
everyone to simply forget what happened and go on to daily business.
Particularly when the question as to whether and how the echo could be reunited
is still open.

But you have to accept that a lot of bitterness has built up on both sides of
the fence, and it won't go away in a week merely because the "fighters" have
been separated by a "referee" - worse still, a "referee" not accepted as
impartial by one of the two sides.

The thoughts may have been reasonable, but the language was inflammatory and
exactly the kind of thing that started the flamewars in the "old" Fidonews.

You can't expect a radical change in a week, Nicholas, particularly when action
was only taken by one side. It'll take time for things to cool down, and some
of the real hotbloods may never get the message. But at least the present
situation _allows_ the echo to cool down. Probably the "other" Fidonews echo
has also cooled down due to the loss of anyone who might contradict the
hotbloods there. Give it some time and maybe the people who can change things -
the ZCs - can talk reasonably and try to come to a consensus.

Well, as I mentioned, you can't expect everyone to suddenly suffer total
amnesia just because the echo has been split - it'll take some time for tempers
to cool down and wounds to heal. And of course, there has to be a fair amount
of content in the newsletter to comment on it. I've written some messages
regarding the content, and others have as well. But if _only_ such messages
were allowed, the echo would dry out pretty quickly.

;-) That's what we had up to now. I personally find the civilized tone here
refreshing and would like to see it in a reunited Fidonews echo in the future.
