If he meant me, he didn't ask a question and so I didn't answer.

As I mentioned to Roy, you can set the cutoff length of messages in FE to what
you want (or not truncate messages at all):

Menu: Data/Areafix Options/Max. receipt size

Enter anything from 0 (zero = don't truncate regardless of length) to 99999. In
my system, the cutoff is 15K and I only very rarely get anything that was
longer (which should have been sent directly as a file attach anyway, and
certainly doesn't belong in an echo). Then it's truncated and put in Badmail.

However, most routing systems will truncate overlong messages, so that won't
generally do you much good.

Keep anything you want to send below around 64K (or break up a long message
into 64K - preferably smaller - pieces) and there should be no problems (unless
one of the routing systems has a lower cutoff level). Send anything longer and
you take your chances. It may well be stopped at one of the routing systems.

Overlong messages. And possibly truncated at some intermediate system rather
than FE on your system.

PQ> * posts of the Space Calendar in NASA-type newsgroups that I pull for
PQ> my reading; or,

Again, overlong messages,

PQ> * my old system maintenance BATch that used FE's post util to post my

And still another.

You can have FE toss messages of practically any length (up to 99999 Bytes),
but there's no way you can force routing systems not to truncate or sort out
overlong echomail messages. That may not be necessary nowadays, but it's a
standard that developed in the POTS era and still applies on most routing
systems.

PQ> The first I don't give a rat's ring about; it's just the *warning*
PQ> netmails from FE that bug me.

Warnings? Never seen anything like that here. When FE truncates overlong
messages, it just does it (maybe mentions that in the log, but I rarely if ever
look at that. Probably there's a switch in the configuration for sending you a
warning message when an inbound message is truncated - if so, it appears to be
set to "off" on my system.

PQ> Am I missing out on something not available here (in this hemisphere)?

Not if we're talking about FastEcho (FE).

Cheers, Bob
