Z2C. Who was sued in court for his trouble. I and others in R24 contributed to
his legal defence fund, and were glad to do so.

Indeed. Unfortunately, the lessons we in R24 learned didn't make it into
general policy. If they had, someone like Bjorn would have been removed long
ago. The difficulty in his case is that he was not only the Fidonews
"moderator" (quotation marks intentional), but the newsletter "editor" (same
comment), but on top of everything else RC20.

You'd expect quite some responsibility from someone wearing so many hats at
once (FTSC added to the list), but unfortunately that was lacking. And taking
out an RC who is simultaneously the "moderator" of a key echo and "editor" of
the only fido newsletter, plus a member of the FTSC, is a job that is certainly
not easy for even a very strong ZC who is in addition opposed to the policies
of said RC. And the job is hopeless when the ZC has been compromised by his own
postings - more's the pity.

No, let's not generalize on such matters. That was the doing of _one_ specific
person and has nothing to do with Z2 in general, any more than the whole of Z1
is in agreement with what happened with Fidonews (echo and newsletter).

The thing I find most offensive about both the former Fidonews (echo) and some
postings I've seen here is the attitude that _everyone_ in a zone thinks alike
and is repsponsible for _everything_ done in or in the name of the zone.

If we - all of us - could get away from such thinking, we'd be a good deal
friendlier to one another, and aberrations such as Mr. Felten's "moderation" of
the former Fidonews would not be possible.
