That's what I figured too. My friend is a willing worker, but you can't
leave him alone on a project like that.

On the above car, a 63 Corvette, it only had drum brakes.

When I had the machine shop, I had a machine, I called Bertha because of
her size, that was capable of machining even 6 cylinder heads flat. I'd
first set the head up on the granite, indicate the high and low spots,
mark them and then shim the head on the milling table to match what I
found on the granite. There's really no good way to machine them flat,
since machining the high spot will reduce combustion chamber sizes and
leave the low spot chambers bigger. My European expert mechanic across the
parking lot would CC those chambers and grind enough out of them to make
them, within reason, equal sizes.
