Ärende: question after reading conf for several days

RB>>> Still is. The Europeans never really got past a four-cylinder
RB>>> motor, whereas V8's were common in the States.

RW>> Check out BMW's 4L V8...it makes as much if not more HP as my Z28.
RW>> Then there are the MBs and Fararris (sp)...I especially liked the

Correction: Sunbeam Tiger V8...

RB> Maybe things have changed since, but there was a time when special
RB> models were sold in the States.

Times have changed. BMW has an assembly plant in SC, I think. The BMW 4L
V8 originated (imported) in the 740 sedan. It is also available in the 3
series now days. Part of the M3 performance package.

RB> I know for a fact that the low-end Mercedes-Benz models were never
RB> sold there, which gave people in the States the impression the MB was
 RB> a "luxury car".

Since they also import MB trucks, that impression isn't as prolific as you
might think. That they also badge some of them as Dodges (heaven forbid)
is amazing, since they haven't lost any of the MB look.

RB> And I had problems making Americans believe that an average German
RB> worker often drove one - but of course not the US model, but the
 RB> low-end models sold here.

Most people here drive them because they're a very expensive European
import. I gues that's supposed to impress somebody, but haven't figured
out who. Some are under the impression that they have the safest car in
the world to drive or fall for the 'best engineered' car adverisments.

I call them way over-engineered wanna be cars.

RB> I once drove a MB 200D company car from Stuttgart to Duesseldorf, and
RB> was surprised that the performance was comparable to that of a VW
RB> 1200 Beetle - didn't think it would be that bad, but it was. Just too
RB> heavy for the small motor in the car.

Probably because it was a 2L four cyl non turbo-charged engine - 72hp and
96ft/lb of torque in a heavy car.

 RB>>> Citroen's as "high-end cars"? Don't know what you're talking about
 RB>>> there.

RW>> I agree with that, but my neighbor had a Citroen with either a V6 or
RW>> V8 that was pretty fast. He was a Porsche man and I was surprised
RW>> when he brought that French nite-mare home. Then he opened the hood
RW>> and I understood his madness.

RB> Some people like the ride. The hydraulic suspension makes it
RB> comfortable, but it would make me nervous going arounhd a corner and
RB> having the car tipping over as far as it does.

I'd be nervous standing next to one of those...
