Yep.

Probably could have found ways to do that, I had some global routing statements
in squish.

He did get local echoes from another node in our
cooperative, such as the local buy/sell/swap echo, etc.
THis included a local sysops' chat conference.

Part of the reason was the amount of control files I'd have
to modify from remote.  Remember that many times at that
period (which was shortly before i transferred hubbing
duties to someone else but still routed uucp gateway
traffic) I was often touring.

Maybe, but he did have access to local echoes.  He'd also,
and my memory is hazy here (almost two decades later) but
there was something about threats to the continued operation of my system
involved too.

See above.  Just easier to look him out.  I did when I made
it back home from being on tour change those files, and
instituted no password protection at all, which means that
his mail to my system would get tossed into the msg base,
but archive bundles would not be unpacked, and no echomail
in a packet would be accepted.  ONe thing i've always liked
about the binkley concept of security.  IT was just easier
to upload a modified nodelist compiler control file and a
temporary batch file to process it until I made it home in
two weeks.  By that time he'd already filed a pc.

Iirc the nc, who'd seen copies of his staements threatening
the continued operationof my system saw it my way.  17 years later I'd probably
take a different approach now, but back
then I just wasn't in the mood to fool with the guy.  Would
I act in the same way today?  Most likely not.  At the time
it seemed like the best policy both to protect myself, my
system, and those I had agreed to serve.  OThers depended on that system to hub
their mail, and I took that
responsibility seriously.  Providing for their need to have
a reliable hub trumped his need to directly communicate with me.  HE could
communicate with me via the local echoes, via
routed mail, or even by logging onto the bbs itself if he
wished to resolve the issue.  IN fact, he did log onto the
board as a human caller to tell me he was going to file.  My response was that
if he felt froggy then he should leap.
