Being that the majority of repeaters in use are/were commercial radios
removed from that service and frequency converted for HAM use and are
already regulated for clean emissions and tuned for non-interference, the
positive offset of the repeater being close to the band edge made more
sense to the CA coordinating body. I felt that my repeater was well within
the specs since I had a friend who was a business radio service tech who
had the equipment to tune my cavities and the radio itself. Like his, mine
was one of the cleanest HAM repeaters in the area.

The person who owned my repeater before me had to wild dreams as well. In
fact part of it was already included in what I got with it. I removed it
because I had no illusions of ever taking it that far.

Blake was a good man...we had lots of conversations in HAM before Edmonson
broke up the subject with his constant whining about 'off topic' in that
echo.

The problem with grain bins or silos for that matter is the nitric acid
gas buildup. Silage (alfalfa, etc) tends to ferment and create an
explosive gas that is not only toxic for mankind to breath, but any small
spark could ignite it. If you put electronics in that building, the
possibility of lightning striking the silo is more likely than not.

I used to be the care-taker of a local club repeater and wished the
members could see their way to buy some backup batteries for that
repeater. It went off the air several times during my tenure and making a
trip to and fro the site to reset the PS was a PIA. 45 minutes one way to
change out a blown fuse wasn't worth my time. Cleaning out a dead mouse
who tripped over the PS caps was even worse.

Sheesh...if that was California, they'd have 5 or 6 guys on the waiting
list who would be notified the instant your request arrived.

LOL! We'd have coordination meetings called for the issuance of a pair and
everybody who had an app on file would be there, fighting to get it.

That wasn't a problem in CA...if you took your system off the air, there
would be another one up the next day to fill the empty gap.
