Ärende: The real free world..
=============================
Hello Roy,

On Fri 2012-Jun-01 04:08, Roy Witt (1:387/22) wrote to Richard Webb:

Indeed. The only way I should show any nonsupport though
was not make it available to users and points.

RW> OTherwise, FIdonews the echo was available from plenty of dial-up

INdeed, or my uplink, or Janis, or many others. But I don't limit what a
listed node can pull for message echoes. But,
carriage on the bbs implies endorsement imho. See below.

Roy> IMO, Ackley had burnt out and the death of a modem was the coup de
Roy> grace for him...

YEah sorta looks that way.

RW> I think at the time there were two points reading any echomail at
RW> all, and neither was interested. Both have fallen away now anyway.

Roy> A result of showing no interest at all in anything concerning
Roy> Fidonet.

Indeed. One fell away because he spends more time in the
hospital than out these days.

RW> Imho this we're cool you're garbage type stuff has no place in an
RW> echomail conference which purports to represent an international
 RW> network,

Roy> Huh? This we're cool? You're garbage? Re-phrase please.

Let me restate slightly. "Our country's great, your
country/culture has no redeeming qualities ... " etc. In an international
network we should be attempting to build
cultural bridges, not tear them down.

RW> but that's me. YOur mileage may vary as they say. AS for who
RW> started it and when, I really don't give a rat's rear end.

Roy> All of which is irrelevant...

YEp, which was 90% of what i saw happening, irrelevant for
the most part even to FIdonet. There are several reasons I
could think of that I might wish to were I going over that
way visit Amsterdam. I have made many friends via the net
over the years, and other than the occasional
miscommunication due to local dialects we have plenty in
common. A Danish colleague in the audio production
newsgroups and I have much the same approach to our work,
etc. Another from Italy has an entirely different approach, but I learn from
him as well.

Contrast that with this echo a year ago, plenty of acrimony, and not much other
than that. I found it far from an
interesting read.

Regards,
           Richard
