True, but there again, there's no law saying i have to, or
you ahve to.  IF asked why by any of them I would have told
them.  Fidonews the file echo was available to anyone who
wished to link to it.  iF you want a hamburger, don't go to
a CHinese restaurant.  IF you want to see people exchanging
insults in a discussion area which is devoted to the
official publication of Fidonet, access it elsewhere.  IT
was only a short period when this was the case, again
FIdonews the echo is available if a user or point wishes it, mainly because the
rhetoric has both toned down a bit, and
what's happened with the publication itself.  i was
rethinking that decision before the echo split I assure you, because letting
users and points access it would let them
make up their own minds as to what they were seeing.  Iirc
there was a period of about a month that it wasn't available to suers and
points from here before I revisited my
decision.

I'll carry an echo I don't like for a user or point, but it
advertises itself pretty much as what it is.  POint of view
isn't a meaurement I use as to whether an echo is offered to users.  Whether
that echo accurately represents itself for
what it is however does have some bearing on wehther or not
i"ll offer it.  NOte our discussion a few months back
regarding the old flame echo.  I brought it in for a listed
downlink who was paying his share into the crp when I was
hubbing.  Two of my points read it for awhile, one
continued, the other dropped it.  When the listed downlink
went elsewhere for his employment, and left the cooperative
flame wasn't available to that point, unless he wished to
pay the cost of bringing it in.    But, when you linked up
to the flame echo you knew what you were getting.  IF an
echo says it intends to be the voice of the Klu Klux Klan,
and the backbone chooses to carry it, a point may link up,
it advertises itself for waht it is, etc.  I won't agree
with the viewpoints expressed there, but those who aren't
fellow travelers should govern themselves accordingly and
stay away.  IN short, let the user know what he/she is
getting when they darken the door.

YEs it does, but every publication you buy, every business
you patronize shows bias.  YOur favorite daily paper has a
bias, as does anyone's.  MIne is mainly that something i
carry on the system advertise itself as what it truly is.
SEe my example of a kkk forum above.  If you consider it
vile hate speech unless the moderator encourages such debate or criticism,
don't post.  IF reading it offends, don't read it.  At the time I put those
restrictions in place i saw
plenty of writing in this echo that imho were contrary to
the spirit of FIdonet.

Back in the days when I was a busy hub i carried the
LImbaugh echo on my system, a couple of my users really
enjoyed it.  I always thought Rush was a jerk, so other than making sure my
users weren't violating echo rules I didn't
bother to read the echo.  Had the mod of that echo informed
me one of my users was no longer welcome, his access would
have been cut, my other users could still enjoy the echo.
but again, the echo advertised itself for waht it was, a
place for fellow travelers to discuss Rush LImbaugh's radio
programs and publications.  FUnny thing, none of my
downlinks in my crp would carry it <grin>.
