=================================
Alexander,

I do not really know you, so please excuse me if I sound offensive perhaps, I
don't mean to.

It seems you must be living under a media black-out or something, because ...

ak> Yes, we probably is not better, but the bulk of corpses after WW2 were on
ak> the count of the US/NATO.

The US and NATO are not the same. The US is less and less inclined to conduct
military operations on its own, if they do they also need to pay for it. The
world monetary crisis also is felt there.

NATO also cannot be accused of occupying like a dozen countries or so for
around 50 years and virtually impose a continuous martial law. The football
riots in Poland the day before yesterday were greatly due to Russia's
occupation of Poland. It'll take some generations to get over it.

Also NATO nor the US ever rolled its tanks nor marched its troops in to
suffocate a freedom-desiring population like happened in East-Germany in the
late 40-ies, Hungary in 1956, Tsjecho-Slovakia 1968, Poland somewhere in the
70-ies ...

I was in Prague in 1991 (I think it was) the day the last Russian soldier left
(a general) from the occupation that started in 1968. There was a spontaneous
unplanned fiesta that broke-out and we were taken everywhere to celebrate with
the people.

Budapest is a nice holiday vacation site now, but if you know where to go you
still see the battle scars where Russians fought against the general
population.

ak> They killed millions and still believe that in
ak> Vietnam they promoted democracy.

I don't think democracy was ever an issue. In the beginning the regime they
supported was the one headed by Ngo Dinh Diem, he was a bloody dictator and
nepotist by any definition in the book, and after his murder in 1963 (set up by
the CIA) was replaced by a string of generals who didn't promote democracy
either. Is there any proof of any decent elections during the time-frame of
American presence in Vietnam?

Your remarks raise the question how well you are aware from Russia's occupation
of Afghanistan? Sources mention 300.000 Afghans killed during that time-period
and close to 100.000 Russians. The Afghan army (and the Taliban rebels) still
use Russian military weaponry left behind from that era.

ak> And there is no repentance, and there is
ak> readiness to do the same further on.

Smaller strikes undoubtedly, but not major offensives. Those are a thing from
the past as the American economy must also pay for that and if the past decade
has taught something, then it is that a war needs an economy to back it up.
When the economy dries up, then there's no money to pay for the war.

But I'm glad there's an American strike force in the Arabian seas ... it's
obvious without that military capability there would be continuous wars in that
area to control the sea lanes and oil transports.

In the ancient days up until WW1, wars were paid in part by the spoils,
whatever could be carted-off and looted. It formed part of the nucleus of WW2.
Those days are over.

ak> It is a perfect example of the
ak> phrase "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions." When America
ak> wants to help, it means the score of victims will be 10 and even 100 time
ak> higher that it would be without American help. ;-\

That's propaganda.

I can lead you to American (and British, and French) military cemetaries here
full of ordinary young men who hadn't much of an option other than to serve.
They helped liberate my parents from Nazi rule and prevented Russian from being
a mandatory language course at school when I was young.

The only thing America asked for was a decent burial spot for its slain people.
And the people from my country granted that until perpetuity.

ak> They helped in Libya, and very soon there inevitably will be a blooding
ak> civil war. The Libya events actually triggered the Syrian violence, when
ak> the rebels understood the simple thing -- the more blood the more chances
ak> to put Asad regime under a NATO strike. I strongly believe that the
ak> Syrian violence is the direct consequence of the recent US/NATO invasion
ak> in Libya. One bloody crime always causes another.

It's at least an interesting take you have on current world events.

Is that what the news media in Russia make of it? You are aware, I hope, that
no ground invasion in Lybia took place and only strategic bombings (no
Americans)? I hope you are aware this was under a mandate by the UN Security
Council and that if it were as you say, Russia could have simply blocked it
with a veto?

What happened in Lybia, meaning the downfall of the Khadaffi regime, was a
direct consequence of serious political changes in "all" North Afriocan
countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt) where all traditional rulers were
removed from office (or had to run). It was just Lybia that was left and no
decent political commentator will subscribe to the theory it was a US/NATO
based conspiracy that toppled Khadaffi. The people realized they could initiate
change, and they did.

In Syria the people of the League of Arab Countries came to the conclusion that
Asad is a tyrant with blood on his hands, we've had our own news crews there
(not CNN or whatever, but 100% Belgian) and they confirm Asad is a bloody
tyrant, the UN observer taskforce has been rendered helpless, Kofi Annan (for
whom I did some work) being the world's ultimate diplomat was unable to achieve
anything.

Asad is killing thousands and thousands waging a war against his own population
... and you expect the world to sit down and watch while it happens like a
horror show?

But the take is indeed interesting to see how a news situation can be poluted
to cover-up the sending of Russian attack helicopters to Asad so he can kill
some more civilians.

Interesting politics by the Russian embassador in the UN Security Council,
voting in support of the resolutions regarding Syria and at the same time
sending sophisticated weaponry to help Asad perpetuate the situation.

You talked about Vietnam, Alexander, that is 40 years ago. Syria is "now" and
there are no Americans on the ground ... but there are Russian "military
advisors" ... that's how Vietnam started BTW.
