Hi Roy,

On Thu 2012-Jun-14 10:49, Roy Witt (1:387/22) wrote to Richard Webb:

RW> YEp, and another reason that a lot of televisions were so
RW> susceptible back then, according to an old ham radio friend
RW> of mine who was a tv repairman and antenna installer for his day job
RW> was that a lot of television sets back then used an if that was 21
RW> mhz. That for the uninitiated is the 15 meter band, a popular
RW> amateur band worldwide back then, and now.

Roy> For some reason, that affected more of the lower VHF TV channels.
Roy> i.e. WOC-TV was on channel 6 and located in Davenport, IA, about 60

YEp, woc was our nbc affiliate in Burlington, Iowa where I
grew up, about 60-70 air miles I'd guess. We didn't have an abc TV affiliate
far as I recall until 65 or so, but I might be wrong, maybe 64 when MOline on
channel 8 came on, then
Ottumwa, Ia. on channel 3 came on about the same time.

Roy>>> Haven't seen one of those animals in a coon's age.

RW>> Nope, I traded that sixer for something else, ended up with
RW>> a Utica 650, basically the same thing, but with a transmit
RW>> vfo. I had a d-104 microphone connected to it.

Roy>> I have one of those D-104 (lollipop)s on my TS520...back then, the
Roy>> mic on the 10mtr lunch box was a 251 Turner.

RW> I had one until Katrina, I think it ended up living in a
RW> closet for a long time. I didn't use it on fm, and at the
RW> time my only hf rig was an Icom, and I had a Heil for that
 RW> one.

Roy> We helped a friend move out of her house a couple of years ago. In a
Roy> large box I found a bunch of CB radios w/mics and a antenna, less
Roy> radials. In among the radios were some after-market mics. One was/is
Roy> a hand-held and chromed 'd-104' for a mobile radio. A couple of
Roy> amplified antiques also in the mess. I saved out the spare mics, but
Roy> the mics that came with those radios stayed with them. Will put them
Roy> up for sale (tested, but as is) at my next garage sale. The
Roy> broken/modified radios will be used for target practice... 8^)

Can relate to that. IF I need cb I'll just jump on the
kenwood. I've got to hit a truck stop and get one of those
mirror mounts that I can mount on the spare tire rack on the rear of the van so
I can mount my 3-way hustler mount, I've
got 40 and 20 meter resonators, and if we have to make a
flying trip north for funerals or something I'd like to have 20 meters mobile.
I can always get an 11 meter resonator
for the third of that hustler mount if I think I really need cb, but i"ll ahve
40 and 20m plus 2 meters so I shouldn't
need it.

Regards,
           Richard
