Then why was Joe Stalin so desperate to make a deal with Adolf Hitler
over Poland?  Stalin was clearly unprepared for war with Nazi Germany,
and needed to buy time.  And even then, it would not have been enough.
But thanks to help from the Americans...

Nazis were everywhere during WWII.  Especially Nazi U-boats.  And
the Nazis did come close to conquering Britain.  In fact, Winston
Churchill had expected a Nazi invasion of Britain, and had secret
plans to conduct a civilian (guerilla) campaign against the new
rulers of Britain.

Hitler did it.
But both got the devil beaten out of them by the weather.

China is much more fragile than you realize.  Tibet is huge, and
its people will eventually go their own way, whether their Chinese
overlords like it or not.  And once that happens, other areas in
China will break off, declaring their own independence.

Canada is already breaking up, the Innuit claiming their own
independent state in the Northwest Territories.  The Quebe‡ois
will also soon have their own independent state.  Other provinces
will do the same.

The USA will break apart within the next few years, probably into
nine or ten separate independent states.  Dixie in the South, Little
Cubana in South Florida, Yankee Heaven in the Northeast, Acadiana in
South Louisiana, Dairyland in Wisconsin, Flakeland in California,
Mexicali in the Southwest, etc.

Hitler's invasion of Russia saved Stalin from being overthrown by his
own people.  Hitler needed Russia's mineral resources in order to win
the war.  Stalin was able to successfully rally the Russian people,
Stalingrad remaining in Russian hands.  Had Stalingrad fallen, the
USSR would have been no more.  And Stalin would have been history.

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was a limited attack on
a military site, a straightforward warning to the USA to stay
out of the Pacific.  IOW, it was just a pinprick, the Japanese
high command expecting no real consequences.

When did the Japanese really lose WWII?  The Battle of Midway.
