I've learned that it's true over the years, sometimes with a couple of
difficult personal lessons <grin>. It just ain't
worth it, as they say.

Ditto.  I've found taht if i can restrain myself I'll often
gather more information however.  This goes back to that
maxim you all ahve been debating its origins, re keep one's
friends close, but one's enemies closer.
Kinda like that piece Jack Abramof <spelling> the lobbyist
wrote in his playboy piece recently.  The guy who wins just
doesn't war game his strategy but the other guy's as well.

USed to be more that way when I was a younger man, but they
have a habit of drawing in whoever or whatever is around
them, kinda like a black hole.

YEp, see later comments to Mark just earlier this morning.
My natural preference is to be more like Mark, if it's
behidn me far enough that it won't involve me in its normal
sphere of influence I can ignore it.

But, there are moments.  YOu might know i used to work
around a hospital, and one thing I learned is that if you're going to do
anything the least bit stupid be sure not to
injure yourself in the process, cause the emergency response staff is looking
hard for a laugh, and if you provide it
you'll be the butt of the joke around the water cooler and
the coffeepot for the next day or so.
