Does it? Logic has never been a criterion in tax laws. Rather, they act
according to the principle of "take what you can get".

Set up by people earning many hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, with
additional perks. We should have it so good.

The "peons" who have to pay for those big salaries and perks. You and me.

Don't cross yourself when you write that. There are, and have always been
unjust and unlogical laws made by people with no comprehension of life except
among the upper 10,000.

DS> Maybe so, but it is still illegal.

As already mentioned, illegal because of laws made by people who are better off
than you and I, and who generally exempt themselves from their own laws.

DS> With stiff penalties if caught.

In the Middle Ages they cut off people's hands or hung them for such
"transgressions". Nowadays such things might not be accepted by the general
population with such equinamity as in those days - but with enough propaganda
("everyone must pay their fair share" - without a definition of "everyone" or
"fair share") it's easy to distract the mob - us - from those with privileges
and direct their anger toward their own kind of people who try to keep the
fruits of their labor instead of donating them to governments whose only raison
d'etre is a pseudo-election every four years (and devil take the hindmost in
between).
