Actually the 'apparatus' is presently on a less than equal plane with
other social spending. The U.S. Department of Defense budget accounted in
fiscal year 2010 for about 19% of the United States federal budgeted
expenditures and 28% of estimated tax revenues.

The other social programs in the US don't have tax revenues, they have
deficits because the Feds borrow from those funds to pay for other things.

Including non-DOD expenditures, defense spending was approximately 25-29%
of budgeted expenditures and 38-44% of estimated tax revenues. (ie:
defense pays for itself)

According to the Congressional Budget Office, defense spending grew 9%
annually on average from fiscal year 2000 to 2009. Par on with inflation
over those 9 years.

Because of constitutional limitations, military funding is appropriated in
a discretionary spending account. Which is why they call it a 'military
budget'...

WD> Your country has one of the lowest social systems of the free world

WD> invested in "We the People".

Not true either. Social Security is 20% of the budget, Medicare/Medicaid
is 19% and 'other' mandatory Federal spending is 17% while 'other' Federal
discretionary spending is 12%. So, 19% of the budget is spent on our
military but has a return in tax revenues, while 68% is spent on social
programs paid for by tax revenues. I know, the above doesn't add up to
100%, so FYI: 5% of the budget pays interest on Federal loans and 4% is
spent on TARP...

WD> There is a free-ride ... it is called "the military".

Hardly a free ride when you consider that there are taxes paid on the
income by those companies who supply it and those who are employed
by those companies, not to mention the taxes paid on income of those
military personel.

WD> Same here BTW ... but we're not dependant on our military to take
WD> care of our unemployment rates.

If that were true here, we wouldn't have an average of 10% unemployment
overall. Yours is as high, btw.
