Janis, the demand for health care is infinite and the supply of health
care is finite.  The only way to reconcile those two facts is rationing;
you prefer it be done by some government bureaucrook, I prefer it be
done by price, but the bottom line is that somebody is going to draw a
line and deny care.

The people of this country don't need insurance, they need health care.
If the government was honest - and it hasn't been for probably a century
or longer - it would set up a government run health system, build and equip
the facilities and hire the physicians and other professionals to run it.

Oh wait, the government DID do that - and it's been quietly been shutting down
the US military's health system since at least 2004, presumably because it's
too
expensive to run.

What the government is doing is forcing others to eat the cost of what is
basically
going to be yet another government welfare program.  The congress has
systematically
underfunded the health care promises it has made to various populations (the US
military, US veterans, Indians living on reservations and the elderly) for
decades.

The government expects providers to eat those unpaid costs, I expect those
providers
to either stop providing some services or close.  Hospitals in some
metropolitan areas
of this country have already closed their Emergency Departments.
